FAQ
General
Yes, each of our instructors is licensed by the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles to teach classroom and behind-the-wheel training to all age groups.
You must be at least 14.5 by the first day of class.
The completion time depends on age, scheduling flexibility, and instructor availability. Typically, each student is done with the 30-hour classroom portion and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel within four weeks.
If you are 18 or older, you'll need a valid, unexpired North Carolina learn license or driver's license to start driving lessons. If you are under 18 and have taken the driver education class, you'll need a valid, unexpired learner permit to start driving lessons. If you are between the ages of 14.5 and 17, you do not need a license or permit to take our driver education class.
Call, email, or visit the website of the previous driving school or high school where the student has taken and completed the 30-hour classroom portion and request and fill out a release of records form. Once this is complete, email us, and we will contact the other school and advise you of your next steps and when you can book behind-the-wheel training.
Class
Yes. Once you have completed the class, we will allow you to book your dates through the website.
Make-up days will be scheduled during the next set of classes. The student will attend the missed block of instruction on the corresponding next class schedule. This will delay completion of the 30-hour classroom course and beginning the behind the wheel portion. If you miss more than one day, you will have to retake the class. During the summer months, we do not provide make-up days as classroom sessions are 6 hours. If you miss a day, you will have to retake the class.
No permit is required to take the driver education class. The student must be at least 14.5 years old by the first day of class.
First, you must schedule an appointment to take your written test at an NC DMV Driver License office. Next, you/your parent/guardian must contact your high school and get a Driving Eligibility Certificate (DEC). This verifies that a student is enrolled in school and has demonstrated adequate academic progress toward graduation.
Behind-the-Wheel
This depends on your scheduling flexibility and instructor availability, and student ability. You can take one 2-hour behind-the-wheel lesson each day and schedule up to three driving lessons in advance.
No, you are covered under our commercial insurance during all behind-the-wheel training.
No, our vehicles have safety features (i.e., passenger brake, passenger mirror, student driver signs) that don't come in standard cars.
Should you need to reschedule a lesson, you may do so by calling the school and speaking with a member of the administrative team. You must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a $50 late/no-show fee.
Generally, no, as we provide private one-on-one behind-the-wheel lessons for all students. However, observers are allowed to ride after the behind-the-wheel student signs a waiver stating they agree to have another student ride/ observe during their block of instruction, AND the rider must be a registered student of the school. There may be an occasion that a representative of the NCDMV may ride without a waiver to audit instructors.
We will make every effort to provide the same instructor unless you wish to switch.
